Discovering the battlefield tours

The D-Day beaches refer to the historic landing sites in Normandy, France, where the Allied forces executed a pivotal amphibious invasion on June 6, 1944, during World War II. Codenamed Operation Overlord, this large-scale operation marked the beginning of the liberation of Nazi-occupied Western Europe. The D-Day landings took place across five key beaches—codenamed Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword—where American, British, Canadian, and other Allied troops landed amidst heavy German defenses. These beaches now stand as poignant memorials to the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought there, serving as enduring symbols of courage, resilience, and the turning point in the fight against tyranny during World War II.

A Glimpse into the lives of ordinary men living an extraordinary life

Soldiers who took part in D-Day landings were subjected to some of the harshest conditions of WW2 France, from the first landings on beaches Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword to the last days of the invasion, ordinary men made great sacrefices and showed courage in an unrelenting battle against German forces.

Operation Overlord

Operation Overlord, initiated on June 6, 1944, famously known as D-Day, was the meticulously planned Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied Western Europe during World War II. Under the leadership of General Dwight D. Eisenhower, a massive coalition force of American, British, Canadian, and other Allied troops executed a daring amphibious assault on the beaches of Normandy, France. Combining meticulous strategy, extensive planning, and deceptive tactics, Operation Overlord aimed to establish a crucial foothold on the European continent, turning the tide of the war against Nazi Germany. The success of this audacious undertaking marked a significant turning point in the conflict, ultimately leading to the liberation of occupied Europe and contributing significantly to the Allied victory in World War II.

They fight not for the lust of conquest. They fight to end conquest. They fight to liberate."

-- President Franklin D. Roosevelt's official address announcing the invasion
